The Institute's Conferences & Public Dialogues

Since 1993, the Institute for Research in African-American Studies has sponsored a series of public programs bringing prominent scholars, artists, public officials and activists in dialogue before a general audience of students, staff, faculty and community participants on the Morningside Heights campus.

"CONVERSATIONS" Series

The "CONVERSATIONS" series brings to the Columbia campus scholars who present their research-in-progress or a reading from a recently published work; and engage in a critical & lively conversation about their work with a diverse audience including graduate students in African-American Studies, undergraduate students in Columbia's Mellon Minority Undergraduate Fellowship Program, faculty, staff and community members.
